If you’re receiving your drawings in any of the following formats, (.pdf, .png, .gif, .bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, or .tif) you need McCormick’s Design Estimating Pro takeoff tool.
The new Design Estimating Pro is part of the McCormick Estimating System. All takeoff goes directly into the system automatically. An interface program is not needed.

Multiple drawings may be brought into and used in a job. You can select all the drawings within a PDF, or cherry pick only the drawings you are doing takeoff on.
Every item & assembly in the database has its own symbol characteristics. The takeoff may be marked using fully customizable shapes and colors. Line width and opacity may be varied between different items & assemblies. A text overlay may be added to the count or length takeoff. Just pick an item or assembly in either the permanent or jobs database and click the drawings to take it off. Having multiple takeoff windows open is an advantage again.
Drawings are selected from the dropdown and rotated if needed. The scale may be set by selecting a scale, manually entering a scale, or setting the scale from known points on the drawing.
Areas or regions of the drawing may be marked showing the area and perimeter. You can also create a jump either within a drawing or on different drawings. A jump lets you switch to a specific area on a specific drawing. (Useful for fixture schedules, feeder schedules and legends).
Linear takeoff may be done using either single line or connected line. Single line is a point to point length run. Connected line takeoff allows multiple points on a line. Double clicking on symbol allows you to adjust the symbol properties. The fixtures shown were taken off and then rotated 90 degrees by right clicking and selecting the rotation.
All symbols have their own layer (for example, Branch Rough). Layers may be hidden just by unchecking the box next to the layer in the filter dropdown. Branch Rough may be hidden to make the fixture takeoff easier to see. The legend shows the takeoff as it happens; the position of the legend can be changed and moved on each drawing.
And a ton more features:
- Simple to learn! Point and click takeoff.
- Add notes to the drawing for anyone to view.
- Easily add drops! Right click on any length to add, start, or end a drop.
- Compare drawings!
- “As Built” can be thrown together very easily with Design Estimating Pro (DEP).
- Works with all McCormick Estimating Systems (WIN1000, WIN3000, WIN4000, WIN6000).
- The ultimate dual monitor program!
- Fully Networkable! – Everyone can have access to the takeoff (view and share your drawings after your takeoff)
- Also work in the same job on different pages at the same time!
- Bigger selection of symbols and colors compared to other Digital takeoff programs.
Works for all trades!

McCormick’s database is the core of our estimating program. With this database, you can create detailed and accurate bids your way. Our database can store virtually unlimited amounts of items & assemblies plus unlimited amounts of items & assemblies to each job. Any assembly can contain unlimited items which can be taken off as a unit. Both items & assemblies can be modified to fit your needs; it is easy to add, move, and edit them. Items & assemblies contain user definable specification fields. As an example, Price 1 could be your cost, Price 2 your sell price and Price 3 could be a change order price. In addition, each item and each assembly can have its own unit price. We designed the database to be a productivity tool. By taking advantage of its powerful capabilities, you can increase your accuracy and cut your estimating time up to 75%.
